Top 3 Reasons to Get Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

Regarded as the current “gold standard” for replacing missing or unsalvageable teeth, a dental implant is as close as we can come to recreating a natural tooth. Durable, functional and easy to care for, our implants look nearly identical to your natural teeth. Natural teeth have a crown (the part you can see in the mouth) and a root (the part hidden under the gums and bone that keeps the tooth in place). Other methods for replacing missing teeth can mimic the top part of the tooth, but a dental implant also replaces the root. An abutment joins these two portions together. Over time, the bone structure in areas where teeth are missing will start to degrade. Implants help to salvage the stability of your bone, and they prevent further tooth loss while giving you a natural-looking and functional replacement. Using medical-grade body-safe materials such as titanium and zirconium, Dr. Samy Boulos can surgically attach the replacement root to your jaw bone. Then he will attach a crown to the top of the new root using the abutment, to create a new tooth that will function like you’d never lost one!

Implant Options for Every Need

One of the best features of dental implants, apart from their high success rate and incredible durability, is their versatility. Dental implants can replace as few or as many teeth as you need.

Single Dental Implants

Every lost tooth can create problems. Other teeth will shift, creating an uneven bite and increasing wear and tear on nearby teeth. You may then find chewing in that area difficult, and if you’re missing front teeth, you may become hesitant to smile. A single dental implant offers a permanent, natural-looking replacement that will function just like your natural teeth.

Multiple Tooth Implants

If you’re missing more than one tooth in the same area, multiple-tooth implants can replace several teeth at once. Using one or a few implants and abutments, we can attach several crowns. Unlike other options, multiple tooth implants are a permanent solution that will look and feel like your natural teeth.

Implant Supported Dentures

Traditional dentures need to be adjusted periodically over time. They may slip or shift when you chew and speak and may cause uncomfortable sores. Implant supported dentures clip securely into place without the need for adhesives and eliminate many of the problems that come with a traditional denture, all while helping to maintain your bone structure, plus they’re removable.

Avoid Making Costly Mistakes!

Dental implants are a lifetime investment in your health, function, and quality of life. Avoid the common mistakes people make when considering implants by following our recommendations.

Your Journey to Reclaiming Your Complete Smile

Replacing missing or failing teeth with dental implants happens in a few stages, which may take several months to a year to complete. However, the time frame varies widely with each case, so it may happen much quicker for some patients. Before beginning the process in earnest, Dr. Samy will perform a comprehensive examination of your dental health to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants. Our state-of-the-art 3D digital imaging will present a perfect image of your jawline, which will ensure amazing results from your treatment. Once you decide together how you’d like to proceed, you can start your journey back to great oral health and a smile you’ll be proud to show off! We may need to take out damaged or failing teeth before placing your implants. We will also need to make sure there is enough healthy bone in the area to support your new tooth or teeth. If necessary, we can sometimes add bone structure where needed. Once we have determined the best location for your implant, we can place the titanium or zirconium anchor in the appropriate site. While the surgery is usually quite comfortable, many patients choose to sleep through their procedure, so don’t hesitate to ask us about your sedation options!

The Dental Implant Recovery Process

The recovery process from implant surgery is no problem for most patients. The area may feel slightly tender for a few days, but most patients report minimal discomfort after the first day or two. Once we place your implant, it may need several weeks to fully integrate into the bone structure for full stability. If necessary, we can create a temporary tooth for better esthetics while you’re waiting for your permanent crown. We will follow up after an appropriate healing period and test the implant to make sure it’s stable. Once we know the implant can support normal chewing forces, we will attach the crown. You will leave our office with full dental function and renewed confidence!
